Why Your Movement Practice Is Sacred

Why Your Movement Practice Is Sacred (Even If It Doesn’t Feel Like It)

When I first began practicing Pilates, Yoga, and breathwork, I didn’t know I was building more than just physical strength and flexibility, I was laying a foundation for emotional resilience. For remembering who I truly am beneath the noise and busyness of the outside world.

There are days when getting on the mat feels like a ceremony. Candles lit, deep breaths taken, your body humming with presence. And then there are days when you roll onto your reformer or yoga mat between meetings, leggings covered in dog hair, not even sure what your body needs—just knowing you need something.

But here’s the truth I come back to again and again:
Your movement practice is sacred, no matter how it looks.

Because it’s not about perfection—it’s about presence. It’s about how it feels in your body and soul.

Whether you’re flowing through hundreds on the reformer, holding pigeon in stillness, or simply breathing between tasks, you’re practicing the art of returning to yourself. And that is sacred.

Movement as a Portal

At The Ascension Studio, movement isn’t just a workout. It’s a ritual. A return. A recalibration of your nervous system and energy body so you can rise into the highest version of yourself—grounded, radiant, and embodied.

Our bodies store more than tension, they store emotions, memories, and belief systems. When we move with intention and breath, we reconnect to our inner compass and begin to unlock what’s been frozen or forgotten. Through slow, conscious movement, we awaken the body’s natural intelligence and we listen. We regulate. We release.

It’s easy to forget this when we scroll through perfectly curated videos of backbends and Pilates flows. But embodied practice doesn’t have to be beautiful. It just has to be real. Every time you show up—even for five minutes—you’re sending a signal to your body that you’re listening. You’re choosing devotion over disconnection. And that’s powerful.

Pilates is more than just exercise. It teaches presence. Control. Centering. Breath. These aren’t just principles of movement, they’re principles of healing.

When we engage the core, we connect with our center.
When we move with precision, we cultivate awareness.
When we breathe deeply, we clear space for life force to flow.

I don’t teach Pilates to help you fix your body. I teach it to help you feel it again. To help you honor it as the sacred vessel it is. To guide you back to the truth that your body is not a project, it’s a portal.

Tiny Rituals, Big Magic

There’s something holy about rolling out the mat or stepping onto the Reformer with intention. Lighting a candle. Moving slowly. Feeling deeply. Letting your breath be the guide.

This is where movement meets magic.
This is where strength becomes sacred.
This is where you return to the truth of who you are.

The next time you step into your practice, ask:

  • What am I here to feel?
  • How can I support myself today?
  • What would it look like to treat this as sacred?

Your answers might surprise you. Some days it’s movement. Some days it’s stillness. All of it counts. This is what teachers mean when they say “listen to your body.” That inner voice might be quiet at first, but the more you practice tuning in and honoring the signals your body is sending, the louder and clearer it becomes. You know better than anyone what you need. You just have to learn to trust that voice whispering from within.

Give Yourself Permission

If you’ve been craving a slower, more soulful approach to movement, I invite you to begin again. Gently. Intuitively. With breath and presence.

Give yourself permission to show up imperfectly. To move slowly. To change your mind mid-practice. To be a beginner again and again. You are allowed to redefine what sacred movement means for you. That’s the path of the embodied teacher, healer, and human being.

Whether you join me in a class, try a few conscious breaths today, slow down on your walk, or simply place your hand on your heart and listen—I honor the version of you that is ready to come home to herself.

You don’t need to hustle to heal. You just need to begin.

Thank you for being here. I’m glad you found your way.
