We often think of spiritual ascension as something that happens ‘up and out’—expanding into higher dimensions, connecting with divine frequencies, and activating soul gifts. But what if the true gateway to ascension begins in the body? Specifically, in the sacred intelligence of your nervous system?

For many on the spiritual path, the early stages of awakening are exciting, marked by expanded consciousness, energetic activations, synchronicities, and a powerful remembering of who we really are. But there comes a point, often after the initial “high” where things slow down, or even unravel. Emotions surface. Triggers intensify. The body feels anxious, numb, or overstimulated. And we ask: Why is this happening now?

The answer is simple and profound:

Your soul doesn’t want to escape the body. It wants to live fully inside of it.

And that means it must first feel safe there. This is the shift from awakening to embodiment. From light-chasing to light-holding. And your nervous system is the bridge between the two. Slow, rhythmic breathing—especially with the intention of love—can calm the vagus nerve, bring you into parasympathetic rest-and-repair, center your awareness, and open the heart field. Try:
Inhale for 5, exhale for 5, visualizing breath moving in and out through the heart.

Reformer Pilates, yoga therapy, body tapping, or intuitive movement can discharge trapped energy and help you reconnect to your body, releasing stored tension and creating safety within. Let your movement be soft and nurturing, not performative.

Humming, sighing, chanting, or toning sounds like “om” help regulate the nervous system and vibrate healing frequencies through the body.

Touch the Earth. Breathe with the trees. Use grounding crystals like smoky quartz or black tourmaline. Essential oils like vetiver, cedarwood, or patchouli also help root your energy.

  1. Nervous System Nourishment

Support your physical body with nervous-system-friendly foods: magnesium, B vitamins, herbal teas (lemon balm, ashwagandha), and mineral-rich hydration. Healing starts with nourishment.

  1. Stillness That Feels Safe

Soften the lights, wrap yourself in warmth, sip herbal tea, play soft music, dab on some lavender oil and just be. Let your body feel calm and learn that stillness is no longer dangerous.

  1. Energetic Clearing & Chakra Healing

Use visualization, Reiki, grounding meditations, or breathwork to clear your energy centers. Focus especially on your root and sacral chakras to anchor your energy into the Earth and restore foundational safety.

Quality sleep and a balanced, nourishing diet are foundational to nervous system health. Establish a consistent bedtime routine that promotes deep rest (think: no screens before bed, calming herbal tea, soft lighting). Focus on whole foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, B vitamins, and minerals to support brain and nerve function. Nourishment is not just physical, it’s energetic, too.

The more safety your body feels, the more light your soul can hold.

    You begin to notice a pause between stimulus and response. Instead of automatically reacting from fight-or-flight, you can take a breath, assess the situation, and choose a grounded response.   2. You Experience More Glimmers Than Triggers
    Throughout your day, you begin to notice little sparks of joy, beauty, or calm, known as glimmers. They’re micro-moments of safety and connection, and they start to outweigh the intensity of triggers, which are perceived as moments of danger. Your body is learning that it’s okay to feel good again.
  3. Emotional Waves Feel Safer to Ride
    You stop judging your emotions as “good” or “bad.” Instead, you welcome them as messengers and allow them to move through you because you know that they’re an integral part of growth and necessary for your nervous system to respond to stress.
  4. Sleep and Energy Improve
    As your system settles, sleep comes more easily and deeply. You wake feeling more rested, and your energy stabilizes throughout the day. You’re no longer running on adrenaline or depletion, but on restored vitality.
  5. You Live More in the Present Moment
    You’re less stuck in loops of the past or anxieties about the future. You feel more embodied, grounded, and aware of your surroundings. The present moment becomes a place you can actually live in, not escape from.
